10 Quick Tips for Monarch
Here are 10 tips anyone can implement right now to speed up your workflow using Monarch

1. Find apps and Commands faster with abbreviations
Monarch lets you search for apps, Commands, and browser bookmarks using the abbreviation of the name. Speed up switching between Google Chrome and Visual Studio Code by opening Monarch and typing “gc” for Chrome and “vsc” for your editor.
2. Reset Monarch from anywhere with CMD+ESC or CTRL+C
Sometimes you may find yourself several layers deep within an action or task and want to immediately jump back to root search in Monarch. To do this, simply press CMD+ESC
or CTRL+C
.
3. Reuse old commands using the Up Arrow key
You can cycle through your old commands and apps you’ve previously searched. To view the entire command history at once, press CTRL+R
(like in the terminal).
4. Use the dictionary with the double-quote (”) followed by the word
You can get the definition of a word by typing “define [word]” and press enter. Very handy for when you need to know the definition of a word that isn’t on screen. Perfect for being in meetings and getting definitions withoud being obvious!
For example, to get the definition of the word monarch, you can type either ‘define monarch’, and press enter, OR you can use the shortcut by typing "monarch
Clipboard History
Track changes to your clipboard. Files, apps, images, text, and more all get stored here whenever you copy something
5. You can rename clipboard items to make them easily searchable
Press CMD+R
to give your clipboard items more memorable names so that you never lose them again. Perfect for long blocks of text or code!
6. Delete clipboard items
You can quickly and easily delete clipboard items by pressing CTRL+Backspace
. This will immediately delete the item and is not currently able to be reversed if you change your mind, so please be sure!
7. You can filter your history by application
A really popular feature. Don’t know what you copied, but you know what app you were using when you copied it? In the top right of the clipboard history, you can change the “All Items” to filter based on the type of data (images, text, links, etc), and the application you copied the item from.
Color Picker
Monarch is a fully featured color picker complete with a way to manage and organize different palettes, as well as color search with hex codes!
8. Search for colors in HEX format
Simply switch to the Color Picker and start typing in the search box to see valid colors. Hint: You don’t need to put the # symbol in front of the hex color to find it. So searching “fb4f41” will yield the same result as “#fb4f41”
9. Fast Pick Color action
When in Color Picker mode, you can simply press CMD+1
to select a color from the screen. It’s one of the fastest and most efficient ways to pick a color on the Mac!
10. Create separate color palettes
You can organize colors into different palettes with custom names such as “Dark theme colors” or “Website Project colors” to stay even more organized. To create a new color palette, you can press CMD+2
at any time while in Color Picker mode, or click the palette symbol in the toolbar underneath the live color display!
